Nobody’s was commissioned by violinist Nicholas DiEugenio for a 2010 performance of American music for veterans at the Brookle Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. The piece is an ecstatic burst that blends tropes and gestures reminiscent of Appalacian fiddle music with an insistent and repetitive rhythmic scheme. This combination of sounds, along with the integration of noise and a particularly aggressive style of playing, are inspired by the great conceptual artist and musician Henry Flynt. -Ted Hearne
